The Forbidden Kingdom
A friend of my dad turned up at our restaurant and came up to me and asked if I like watching kung fu movies. Well I do so I told him I do and then he gave me a copy of The Forbidden Kingdom to watch. So off I went to watch it and it was quite good indeed. Not as good as those chinese ones but good enough for me to post about it.
First character we see is 孫悟空 (Syun Ng Hung – Monkey King) (西遊記 – Journey to the West anyone?) It reminded me so much of when I used to watch Journey to the West and I certainly loved that xD
Then we see he’s fighting the Jade Warlord. Some corrupt bitch xD Kinda reminded me of Gilgamesh from Fate/Stay Night with the Gate of Babylon.
Finally, the Jade Warlord tricks the Syun Ng Hung and encases him in stone but not before Syun Ng Hung launches his magic wand (more like a pole/stick) far far away, away from the hands of the Jade Emperor.
Back to the present though, some martial art-obsessed teen, Jason, is checking out some martial art movies before getting bullied. The bullies then go on to shoot some old chinese guy and calling him chink at the same time after trying to defend himself with the legendary 金箍棒 (Gum Gong Pang). However as he is dying, he passes it onto Jason and tells him to pass it back to it’s rightful owner. Before being able to do this though, he has to run away from the bullies. After getting cornered, the Gum Gong Pang forces him off the roof and he falls back into time into Ancient China. Here he wakes up and finds out everyone speaks mandarin here and tries to get back to his time. However, some guards begin to chase him and he runs out of the house but gets surrounded. Fortunately for him, he meets Lu Yan (Jackie Chan) whilst he’s sleeping on his donkey. Lu falls off and then begins to drink some wine and starts kung fu-ing the soldiers before escaping from them.
They then feast inside an inn and Jason empties his wallet which amazes the innkeepers. However, soldiers then run in and Lu begins kung fu-ing everyone. However Jason gets into a pinch but Golden Sparrow (Liu Yi Fei) saves his ass. She then decides to join them and escapes together into the forest. Here Jason asks for Lu to teach him Kung Fu after Sparrow tells Jason about Lu being the Drunken Immortal. The next morning though, some mysterious white figure on a white horse (Gandalf the white?! :O) appears and steals the Gum Gong Pang. Lu chases after him and finds him meditating inside a temple. The 2 begin some awesome kung fu showdown with Praying Mantis vs Tiger.
After some stalemate and conversation, the Silent Monk (Jet Li), too, joins the team. They then both begin to train Jason in kung fu and make fun of him at the same time which causes Sparrow to smile at him.
The Monks then come to backup Jason and they begin to kick some ass.
Lu now joins the action and defeats Ni whilst the Silent Monk is on the verge of death against the Jade Warlord. However Jason manages to break the stone statue with the Gum Gong Pang and Syun Ng Hung is revived!
